Losing Weight – Review of the Nutrisystem Weight Loss Program

Article by Donna Morgan

Nutrisystem is a convenient and simple to use weight loss system that first established in the mid 1970′s. The Nutrisystem package contains over 120 ready made meals and desserts for an individual to choose from to lose weight. The system is quite simple to follow in that an individual simply chooses the foods that they would like to order from Nutrisystem’s website, pays for it, and the food is delivered to their home. Each of the foods on the company’s website features a perfect blend of low Glycemic Index carbohydrates and proportionally correct amounts of fiber and protein.

Nutrisystem offers several different types of meal plans for that are tailored made for specific groups of clients, including women, men, individuals over the age of 60, vegetarians, and Type II diabetes sufferers. The company’s websites allows an individual to browse through the different meals that are available and post comments as to which ones they liked and didn’t like. It will take a while to work one’s way through all of the reviews, but they can be ideal for those who are new to the Nutrisystem method. Overall, the foods offered by Nutrisystem are of fairly good quality, as far as frozen, prepackaged foods go; however, one should not expect gourmet meals.

Another appealing aspect of Nutrisystem too many consumers is the fact that the company regularly offers specials and other discounts on their program. The most common plan is an extra week of food, free of charge, when a consumer purchases 28 days’ worth of meals in advance. The overall cost of Nutrisystem food is going to be dependent upon the plan one chooses and any discounts that he or she might receive. The price of the food also includes access to online nutrition classes, counseling, access to their customer forum, as well as delivery of the food packages.

For those who adhere to the plan, Nutrisystem is an all-around effective diet program; however, a participant must be prepared to make room in their freezer for seven sets of three meals a day, plus snacks, which can take up a lot of room. Furthermore, Nutrisystem meals are smaller than most meals people eat, because emphasis is placed upon portion control. The program does allow for some fresh greens and vegetables to be added to their meals, but an individual will have to exercise self-control in what they eat. All in all, Nutrisystem is comparable, and in some instances cheaper, than other over the counter diet systems. Nutrisystem for Men

The beauty of this program is that you are not forced to eat your typical rabbit or “diet food.”  They really do offer burgers, pizza, tacos, and ravioli.  Granted, it is not what you’d get at sports bar or game and the portions are likely going to be smaller than you might be used to, but it’s certainly better than having to eat salads all day.  This basic one cost around 0 before you add in any coupons.  You can either go with the most popular items or you can hand pick your own menu by choosing “custom” at checkout.

Most All Of The Nutrisystem Breakfasts, Snacks, And Dessert Foods Taste Quite Good: I really think that the breakfast, snacks, and desserts are where this program shines. I can’t think of one choice that is bad or inedible here. Some standouts for breakfast would be the blueberry pancakes, the banana nut muffin, the cinnamon roll, and the cluster crunch cereal.

Price Of The Nutrisystem Men’s Silver And Vegetarian Plans: The silver plan (for more mature folks) and the vegetarian plans (meatless foods) is a bit cheaper.  They run 9 for auto delivery without shipping costs (because they don’t charge for it on auto ship) and 3 plus shipping if you are going from month to month. This works out to be about per week and per week, respectively.

Nutrisystem is a diet that relies on prepackaged meals that are designed to meet one nutrition needs without containing too many calories. This diet is composed of meals that would be appropriate for someone who is wathching their glycemic index. The glycemic index is a method of testing carbohydrates and how quickly they effect your blood sugar.

Marino dispels the “macho” stereotype that dieting isn’t just for women. Men don’t have to feel deprived from delicious, hearty food when they are trying to lose that extra weight. As men age, they have a tendency to gain weight which can lead to health problems in the long run. Marino is a shining example that men in their 40s and 50s can eat delicious food with the help of the prepackaged meal system.

To determine how much weight to lose is dependent upon any health factors, which only your doctor can check. It is estimate that losing just five to ten percent of your weight can benefit your health. While dieting for men is not an easy task; it may be a necessary one. As men age, problems associated with overweight begin to reveal themselves which then puts you in a position of having to lose the pounds; no ifs, ands, or buts. If you are overweight, look into a proper diet and exercise regimen that fits your lifestyle. Cut down on unnecessary snacks; beer; and all of the fried foods and steaks you have been consuming.

Jillian Barberie: Without a doubt, Jillian is probably the celebrity most closely associated with Nutrisystem.  Her print and TV ads that show her parading around in a bikini have gotten a lot of attention.  She lost over 40 pounds on the diet following the birth of her daughter.  But let’s face it, I bet she’d look great no matter what she ate.  Still, I think she looks better than ever. I like her as a brunette.

Which Stars Have Been (Or Are On) Nutrisystem?

The Nutrisystem diet may be best known as the diet on which many celebrities publicly dropped a lot of weight. Below is a list of famous people who’ve signed on with the company.

Nutrisystem’s Women Stars: The women celebrity spokespersons have included Tori Spelling, Jillian Barberie, Marie Osmond, Danielle Fishel (Boy Meets World), and Zora Andrich (from Joe Millionaire).  Recent additions are Jodie Sweeten (Full House) and Angie Everhart.

Postpartum Weight Loss: Nutrisystem is also known as the celebrity postpartum diet, as Tori Spelling and Jillian Barberie both lost over 40 pounds after giving birth to their children. (Tori with son Liam and Jillian with daughter Ruby). Following this weight loss, Tori Spelling showed off her new figure and bared a lot of skin for Pussy Cat Dolls while Jillian Barberie paraded around in a bikini proving that, even at 40, mothers can be extremely fit.

Nutrisystem’s Men Stars: Because this diet plan has a very popular men’s diet, the company has obtained men celebrity spokespersons as well, including Dan Marino (ex NFL quarterback), Joey Fatone (Dancing With The Stars, N Sync), ex NFL coach Don Shula, and comedians Larry The Cable Guy And Ant (host of Celebrity Fit Club).

An Overview Of The Nutrisystem Diet: Whether you are famous or not, the diet works in the same way. It is prepackaged meal replacement plan. This means that, five times per day, you’ll eat the diet’s prepackaged meals and add your own healthy additions like fruits and vegetables, or yogurt. The foods are low calorie, low in carbohydrates, and high in protein. This situation sets up your body to burn its own fat, since there are not many carbs available for this purpose. The meals are very easy to assemble, with most being grab and go, and others only requiring minimal preparation.

Wide Variety Of Decent Tasting Comfort Food Choices: In my opinion, the best thing about this diet, (and probably the reason that it is so popular) is that there are many food choices (over 130) that include comfort foods, snacks, and desserts. There is pizza, macaroni and cheese, tacos, chocolate cake, ravioli, and cereals, muffins, and pancakes. And this is only the tip of the ice berg. I included these examples because they appeal to me, but everyone is different. Even if you are extremely picking as I am, there’s probably something that you will like.

And although you are technically on a low carb diet, you will not feel like you are. I find that the taste of the food is not too bad with a few exceptions. (I can not stomach the stroganoff.) And, unlike most other low carb diets, you aren’t eating meat all day / everyday and consuming large amounts of fat and cholesterol.

Cost / Effectiveness: The company says that the plan is designed so that dieters lose about 2 pounds per week. Of course, all the celebrities seem to do better than this and make it look oh so easy. Keep in mind Marie Osmond and Joey Fatone were kicking it up on Dancing With The Stars, and Jillian Barberie freely admits she had to work out postpartum for their first time in her life.

Still, it’s pretty clear that if you add some sort of exercise into your routine, you’ll enhance your results. It doesn’t have to be drudgery either. Just chose something you already like to do and kick that up a bit, like dancing, roller blading, or power walking. You’re also given a free work out video with all purchases.

The cost of Nutrisystem is around per day, but there are usually specials running that throw in free shipping, extras / freebies or discounts. (You can see those at http://celebrity-diet-review.com/) Considering the cost of gas and groceries today, this really isn’t too bad. You only pay for your food (no membership fees), and they offer free weight loss counseling.

Choosing The Best Nutrisystem Plan: Deciding Which Is Best

I often get emails from folks who want some help in choosing what they hope with be the best nutrisystem package or plan for them. Many don’t realize that this diet plan offers many options based on your gender, food preferences, health issues, and how often you want to eat the diet’s meals. And, all of the choices give you a huge variety of comfort food type meals which include things like pancakes, ravioli, tacos, pizza, cookies, and cakes. In the following article, I will offer overviews of many of this diet’s popular plans in the hopes that this information will help you to determine which might be the best one for you.

Nutrisystem’s Basic Plans For Both Women And Men: Without a doubt, the basic women’s and men’s programs are the most popular. These are aggressively priced and include the most popular meals. You will be eating five of the diet meals per day. (This includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack and a dessert.) You’re given enough for 28 days and the base cost of the women’s plan is around 9 before coupons. Generally, the men’s plans cost around more than the women’s. Many people feel that this basic package is a good starting point because it’s an inexpensive way to see what the plan is all about and how it works. It will also give a sampling of most of the foods.

I’d also like to mention that although many people will just go with the “favorites” package so that they can sample as many of the foods as possible, they do allow for you to customize your package so that you can chose the specific foods that you want (or don’t want.)

The Silver Plans: The diet has plans for folks who are over 65 years of age. This is true for both men and women and this is called the silver plan. This one works in the same way as the basic plan. You get 28 days worth of meals and you’ll eat five times per day. But, the foods are specifically designed for the nutritional needs of seniors. There is no additional costs associated with this plan. It runs around 9 (before coupons) just like the basic plan.

Nutrisystem D For Diabetics: Like many meal replacement plans, this one offers a special plan for people with diabetes. The D plan has been studied and evaluated at Temple University with very promising results. This plan works like the others, but a few of the foods that would be higher in sugars and carbs have been omitted so that everything is very glycemic friendly. There is no cost increase for this plan. It has the same price as the other basic packages.

Nutrisystem Vegetarian Plan: As you might suspect, this plan works the same as the rest, except that meals which contain meat or animal products have been eliminated. You’ll still be eating five times per day for 28 days, but your package will include only vegetarian meals. There’s no premium for this one. It starts at 9 like the others.

The Nutrisystem Flex Plan: For people who want to sort of ease into the program or to try some of the foods as cheaply as possible, the part time or flex program can be a nice option. Instead of getting 28 days worth of food, you’re only getting food for 20 days. This allows for you to take two days off per week. The meals aren’t any different, but you’re given less of them. Because you’re paying for less food, the price is cheaper. Generally the flex plan runs about 0 for women and about more for men. This program is probably best for people who like the idea of eating normally a few times per week. And you can get the flex option for any of the plans that I’ve listed above.

The Nutrisystem Select Line: Within each of the above referenced plans, you can chose to go with the premium or “select” line of meals. These are frozen meals that are called gourmet or restaurant quality. Examples of some of the meals within this line are french toast, blueberry pancakes, ice cream sandwiches and sundaes, steak and meatball wraps and paninis, shrimp alfredo, and glazed turkey. Because of the premium foods, this is the most expensive option. Generally, you’ll pay about a monthly premium for the select foods.

With that said, often cleverly used coupons can get the price of many of these plans down. And, there’s never a commitment or membership fee with this diet. You only pay for your food. Everything else is included. I hope this article has helped you determine what might be the best nutrisystem plan for you.

On a general note, diet meal plans are basically nutritional diet programs that have been formulated to aid people in maintaining the right diet and body weight. This is essential so as one can evade any shortcomings or consequences that might accrue. Usually a stable diet meal plan include a variety of objectives, and among the most important of such objectives are: losing weight via fat loss; maintaining a healthier body by ensuring that the internal organs are well cleaned via detoxification; to be able to burn fats and build the desired muscles-especially for men; to be able to gain the necessary body size for the body builders; to have an overall healthy diet for each and every day’s meal so as to fulfill one’s desires of good health.

What Is The Price Of Nutrisystem’s Men’s Plan?

Most people immediately know who nutrisystem’s spokesperson is in terms of the women’s program (Jillian Barberie.)  But not as many probably know who the men’s spokesperson is.  The company has had some pretty famous men on this diet, (like Dan Marino, Don Shula, Joey Fatone, Chris Berman, and Jason Taylor), but most people don’t put the name and the product together in the way that they might for Jillian.  This sort of makes sense because most would assume that more women than men are researching diet programs.  But, I actually get a lot of emails from men wanting more information on this diet.  One of the most common subject matters is the cost of some of men’s programs, which I’ll go over below.

Price Of Nutrisystem’s Men’s Basic Plan: The basic plan is the most popular.  This one has you eating five times per day (three meals, one snack, and one dessert) and the foods are chosen from some of the most popular items.  (You can hand pick your foods for no additional cost by using the “custom menu” option.

The price of this plan is going to depend on whether you are going month to month or if you chose auto delivery (where they automatically send your food when your last order is about to run out.)  Month to month runs about 6 plus shipping (which runs about .)  The auto delivery version of this runs about 9 with free shipping. This is about per week and per week, respectively.

The Men’s Flex Program (The Cheapest Nutrisystem Option):  The cheapest program within this diet is the flex plan.  This is a “part time” diet where you take any two days of per week.  And, this one cost less than the others.  However, the reason for this is because you are getting less food since you’re taking eight days out of the month off.  So, instead of needing five meals per day for the entire month, you’ll need five meals per day for only about twenty days per month.  The food is not any different with this option.  You’re getting the same option and choices and the same portion amounts.

Within the flex plan, men have two options, regular and silver. The silver is really for men over 60.  The cost for the regular men’s flex plan is 9 per month (or about per week.)  If you’re going with the silver, it’s 4 per month (or about per week.)

The Men’s Select Plan Price:  The select plan is the one which includes the frozen entrees. It’s usually a bit more expensive.  But sometimes, they put it on sale where it’s priced the same as the basic plan, which really is an awesome deal.

Coupons: One good thing about this company is that they almost always offer coupons or discounts if you are purchasing a package (rather than buying your foods a la carte.)  So, make sure you take advantage of these incentives which include things like  - 0 off or up to 3 weeks of free food. You should also know that there’s no membership or sign up fees with this diet.  You only have to pay for your food and then you get all of the resources, videos, and counseling for free.

To get the latest Nutrisystem coupon codes for the discounts discussed in this article, please check out my blog (where you can also read my free e book “Getting The Most Out Of Nutrisystem” which includes recipes, the latest specials (up to two weeks free or over 0 off), information on all of the programs, tips, support, and motivation. 5 Weight Loss Diet Plans for Diabetics

Article by Anne Dixon

Have you just learned you have diabetes and your doctor recommends you lose weight? Finding an easy diabetic weight loss diet may seem difficult.

Trying to find a good weight loss program is hard enough. Adding the difficulty of finding a good diabetic weight loss diet can make it seem impossible. This is where we may help out, by explaining 5 different diabetic weight loss diet options.

5 Diabetic Weight Loss Options:

Diabetic Food Exchange Diet: This diabetic diet plan is one of the main eating plans that doctors prescribe to people with diabetes. It may be confusing at first, yet once you understand its concept, you will find that it has two positive outcomes. It will help you lose weight and maintain your blood sugar.

Basically, the diabetic food exchange diet separates food into groups. Each group lists certain foods that may be eaten and the exact portion that may be eaten. Measuring the food portions exactly is very important on this diabetic weight loss diet. It is also important to eat on a very regular schedule.

Diabetic Food Pyramid: This diabetic food plan is easier to understand and implement than the diabetic food exchange diet. The foods are broken out into groups, with the food group allowed the most servings on the bottom. The next set of groups of foods follow up the pyramid, with the top of the pyramid representing the food group allowed the list.

You can lose weight on this diet and be satisfied, if you stay within the servings allowed each group and choose healthy, low calorie foods.

Atkins Diabetic Diet: This is a well known diet found in the Atkins diet books series. The book, Atkins Diabetes Revolution, offers diabetic meal plans allowing three different levels of carbohydrate consumption. This diet plan begins with the person having only 20 grams of carbohydrates a day. Gradually, 40 grams of carbs are allowed, and finally, 60 grams of carbs are allowed per day. This diabetic weight loss diet may be a bit extreme for many people because it almost eliminates breads, rice and potatoes. Yet, many people do control their diabetes as well as their weight with this diet.

Nutrisystem Diabetic Diet Plan: The diabetic weight loss diet plan offered by Nutrisystem may be considered one of the most convenient diabetic weight loss options. The diabetic meals are specifically made for people with diabetes Type II. They are low calorie pre-packaged and pre-portioned, and require no refrigeration. Fresh vegetables, fruits and dairy products will need to be added to fully balance the diet. If you are a busy person and find it difficult to plan meals, this particular diabetic diet should be considered.

Medifast Diabetic Diet Plan: This diabetic diet weight loss plan claims to help you lose 20 pounds in 30 days. Medifast has a simple, yet powerful diet plan called “5 in 1.” This means, you choose 5 items to eat a day from Medifast’s prepackaged meals, and make your own one “lean and green” meal a day. The “lean and green” meal should consist of a lean meat and green vegetable. Many people with diabetes and weight issues have been help greatly with Medifast’s diabetic diet plan.

Any one of the above diabetic diet weight loss plans can help you manage your diabetes and weight loss goals.

Does Nutrisystem Men’s Plan Work? If So, How?

I’m often surprised at how little information is available about the Nutrisystem diet for men.  You can hardly watch the TV or flip through a magazine without seeing Marie Osmond or Jillian Barberie advertising this diet, but you don’t see a whole lot of Dan Marino, Don Shula, or Jason Taylor - who are also spokespeople who just happen to be men.

But, despite the general lack of knowledge about the guys’ version of Nutrisystem, one most definitely exists and in my opinion it is every bit as effective for men as it is for women.  I’ll will get into specifics about this in the following article.

There Are Many Different Options Within The Men’s Nutrisystem Program: Before I go over if or how this program works, I want you to know that there are many different programs from which a guy can chose.  Probably the most popular is the “basic program” which has you eating five times per day.

There is also a vegetarian version which still allows you to eat five times per day but offers only meatless options like veggie lasagna, veggie fajitas, cheese pizza, a variety of soups and stews, and other veggie based options. Next up, we have the “silver” option which is primarily for men over 60.  These options are similarly priced. Again, they are just over 0 for the whole month (and with eating five times per day.)  When you consider this is enough food to last you an entire month, this works out to around per day.  But this can come down even more if you take advantage of coupons.

Finally, the cheapest program, and also the newest, is the men’s Nutrisystem flex program.  This costs just over 0 but the “catch” to this (if there is one) is that you are not getting as much food because you don’t need it.  You get to take two days per week off on this one.  So, you’re going to need less meals in your package to cover this.

So, Does The Nutrisystem Program For Men Really Work?: I truly believe that it does.  You may have gathered that I am not a man.  But, I have had a good deal of success on this diet and I have many male coworkers.  A few of them have been very good sports about going on this diet right along with me and they have both lost decent amounts of weight also.  And both have agreed that the experience has not been all that painful.  It helps that you are able to eat so often and that you are able to add in your own sides so that you feel like you have some more choices and control.

To be honest, the men’s program works via the same mechanism that the women’s program does.  You take in a bit less calories.  You then take in less carbs and higher amounts of protein.  This puts your body into furnace or fat burning mode (called ketosis) because you can no longer burn carbs (since you aren’t providing them.)  The good news is, you don’t have to work too hard for this because the company has already calculated all of the calories and carbs contents for you.  Basically you just chose your foods, eat what is there, and follow the guidelines for what you are adding in.  The company has already modified the foods to be “diet friendly” so all you really have to do is just follow along.

And, I know that guys generally don’t spend a lot of time checking out photos of other guys.  But, checking out the before and after of Dan Marino will give you an idea of how dramatic ketosis can really be.  Neither of my male coworkers have reached these dramatic levels yet, but both are well on their way.
