Now, they encourage you to add a fresh and healthful side to your meal. You might add a piece of fruit, a cup of yogurt, or an additional vegetable. Let’s say your side is around 100 calories. This ensures that you are burning fat instead of carbohydrates. You could also commit to an exercise regimen. In my observation and experience, even adding in the additional calorie burn a daily brisk walk makes a little difference in the speed with which you lose the weight.

Another observation that I can make is that sometimes, the people who start out with quite a bit of weight to lose shed the pounds more quickly than those who only need to lose small amounts. I’ve noticed that people who are losing a higher percentage of their body weight tend to have a relatively easier time losing weight relatively quickly, especially at first. For example, someone who starts out at 320 pounds and wants to lose 75 pounds may well lose weight at a slightly faster clip than someone who starts out at 210 and wants to lose 75 pounds. This is just my own observation. It’s by no means scientific, it’s just what I have seen and I certainly don’t want to imply that if you’re only trying to lose a relatively small percentage of your body weight, that the weight can’t come off steadily or quickly.

So to answer the question posed, if you stay within clinical study ranges and figure on an average a 2-3 pounds weekly weight loss, you’re looking at anywhere from 5 1/2 months to 9 1/2 months to lose 75 pounds, with 7 1/2 months being the mean. Of course with all averages like this, some people do a little better and some do a little worse. I honestly think that being careful with your additions and the amount that you move can help you reach the upper range, but I also know people who did neither who were happy with their results.
