What’s The Truth About Nutrisystem?: An Honest Look At This Diet

The other day, I received an email from someone who said: “Tell me the whole truth about Nutrisystem.  Does it really work? Is the food really good? Do you really get to eat pizza and comfort foods? Was Jillian Barberie really ever fat or is this all a scam?” This email had a lot of questions, but I’ll try to answer all of them in the following article.

My Truth About Nutrisystem. Reality As I Know It: In my experience with this diet, it pretty much delivers what it promises.  You do get to eat tacos, ravioli, pizza, burgers, chocolate cake, and cookies, etc.   The company really has made a strong effort to take comfort foods that most people like (macaroni and cheese, fajitas, etc.) and to make them low in calories, low in carbohydrates, and high in protein and fiber.  And, this is the mechanism by which the diet really works for most dieters.  This combination encourages your body to trend toward a metabolic state called ketosis where it’s burning your body fat.  Simply, you no longer have the excess carbs to burn so your body has to make due with what is available – fat.

As far as the taste of the food, no, the burgers are not going to be exactly like a Big Mac, a whopper, or an in and out burger and the pizza is on flat bread rather than the pan variety, but most of it is pretty decent and I do appreciate having these options because most diets do not allow this. There’s no frosting on the cakes, but hey, at least it’s cake and it satisfies the sweet tooth while keeping you in the safe, ketosis zone.

Does Nutrisystem Really Work?: It does (in my opinion) if you follow along as directed and get into ketosis.  I believe that some people get stuck on adding in their fresh sides. They ask you to add fruit, veggies or dairy with your meals, but you have to use common sense with this.  If you add in a side that is chock full of carbs or high in calories, you’re not doing yourself any favors at all.

Was Jillian Barberie Ever Really Fat?: There’s a lot of controversy about the Nutrisystem ad which shows Jillian in a fat dress. In truth, Jillian was “fat” or had gained a little weight because she’d given birth.  Does this make her any less over weight because it was postpartum? Your opinion on that is up to you, but she did lose 40 pounds. However, we’ll never know if she could’ve done this without Nutrisystem.

I’m more apt to find Marie Osmond’s weight loss on this diet as more believable as she actually was pretty chubby before she was even in the spot light.  There are several photos of her where she is much larger than she is now.  Granted, Dancing With The Stars likely helped, but she has managed to keep the weight off.

So, What’s Your Honest Opinion On Nutrisystem?: I have people who ask me this occasionally.  I think that this is a good diet at a good value.  You are basically paying per day (and that’s before coupons) and are getting enough food for 5 meals.  per meal is extremely reasonable. Specials and discounts can bring this down even more.  And, if you eat the food and are smart about your sides, I firmly believe that you will get in ketosis and therefore will lose weight. The company doesn’t require you to count calories or carbs and they provide the food for you.  They’ve done most of the work. The rest is up to you.

Celebrity Diet Plans

Article by Jen Pearson

The secret lives of the rich and famous have long held the interest of the American public, and this is especially true when it comes to their fabulous figures. It’s rare that one can go through the day without seeing a feature on Angelina Jolie’s luscious lips, reading an article that mentions Kim Kardashian’s ridiculously well-known behind, or hearing a sound bite that talks about First Lady Michelle Obama’s terrifically toned arms. It’s no wonder, therefore, that American women are consumed with thoughts and concerned about their own figures and are curious about what celebrity diet plans are currently in vogue.

Very often celebrities claim in interviews that they get their curvaceous forms simply by eating healthy and sticking to a no-nonsense exercise routine. However, that doesn’t stop many women from picking up every magazine at the grocery check-out stand that claims to have the latest news in popular celebrity diet plans between its cover. The weight loss industry is a multi-million dollar industry – and for good reason.

Additionally, we know that most famous women who claim they get their tight, taut bodies from consuming healthy foods and engaging in regular exercise are likely telling only part of the truth. It’s true that some of them have great genetics in their favor, but it’s just as true that a lot of these wonderful women also devote a lot of their day to working toward looking their best both on and off camera. It should come as no surprise, then, that celebrity diet plans are more than just marketing ploys: they’re real, and many famous females swear by them.

Celebrity diet plans can take many forms. In the last decade many well-known women have relied on popular plans like South Beach, low-carbohydrate, macrobiotic, vegetarian, and many other diet programs to get or maintain beautiful bodies. Still others have stopped planning their own meals altogether, relying instead on companies that deliver small, well-balanced and nutritious dishes to their doorsteps several times a day. And still others incorporate strenuous exercise, natural supplements and pills that promise weight loss (or a combination thereof) to shape their spectacular bodies.

Finally, some famous females have been proud to detail their weight loss journeys in front of the world. For instance, stars like Valerie Bertinelli, Phylicia Rashad, Kirstie Alley and Marie Osmond have lost dramatic amounts of weight by pairing regular exercise with the popular Jenny Craig system, thereby adding this well-known diet program to the list of celebrity diet plans to which “regular” women have easy access. Additionally, sports superstars Dan Marino, Don Shula and Scott Conover have all sung the praises of the popular Nutrisystem program.

Average Weight Loss With NutriSystem

Article by Edna Wharry

There are plenty of people who are swearing by the diets and weight-loss programs that they’ve tried. Each plan promises the best and most effective results for those who subscribe to them. One of these plans is the NutriSystem program, which is increasingly becoming popular even to celebrities. Tori Spelling, Marie Osmond and former N Sync member Joey Fatone are some of NutriSystem’s most famous supporters. What makes this system unique is that the end result is even worth the money you are asked to shell out for this program. Let me tell you why.

First, a short look into the program. NutriSystem allows you to follow a 28-day plan where your food portions are controlled and your “bad” carbohydrates are replaced with good ones. The program lets you choose from its meal-plan selection on what suits you best. It also provides you with the pre-packaged meals according to what plan you choose. The good thing is you will also have the privilege of choosing what the food may be included to complete the diet. These pre-packaged meals are easy to prepare that you don’t need to do much to have a complete hearty meal. You can also supplement these meals with your favorite fresh fruits, vegetables, salads and some dairy products in order for it to a well-balanced meal. These meals, however, are to be taken according to the meal planner that comes with it to reach maximum results.

People who rave about NutriSystem’s effectiveness have reached their weight goals through one of the program’s calorie plans that is included with the package that you order. The calorie plans include the 1000, 1200 and the 1500 that will be equivalent to the food that is provided for you. Regardless of the plan that you choose, you will still follow the same number of meals for your daily needs. These calories are also provided in controlled portions so it saves you time to measure the amounts yourself. If you stick to the regimen, you can lose as much as 55 pounds in 4 months, as what one satisfied customer claims and even keep the weight off. Others lose about 25 pounds in two months, but that is if you’re not too much into following the diet strictly, especially with all the temptation of food around. There’s one consumer who lost about seven pounds, but that was done alongside eating food that he was used to before actually going on the diet.

The average weight loss through NutriSystem depends on the lifestyle and the attitude of the consumers. If you find yourself truly determined and can still spare some time for exercise, you can shed off that 50 plus pounds in no time. But if you want to take care of your weight problems a little more realistically, you should set your sights on losing at least five pounds at a steady pace. If you push through with the diet, remember that you shouldn’t rely on the program alone. You also got to put in a little extra leg work to achieve what you want.

Nutrisystem Celebrity Spokespersons: Do You Need To Be A Celebrity (Or To Be Famous) To Have Success On Nutrisystem?

Nutrisystem is often called the “celebrity diet” or the “celeb mom postpartum diet” for good reason. A slew of stars like Tori Spelling, Danielle Fishel, Jodi Sweeten, Marie Osmond, Belinda Carlisle, Angie Everhart, and Jillian Barberie have all had very public weight loss on this diet.  And, Tori, Jodi, and Jillian lost most of their weight after giving birth.

There have been some male celebs who have been spoke people for this diet too. Examples are Dan Marino, Don Shula, Cris Carter, and Larry The Cable Guy.  Now, there’s no denying that all of these stars lost a good deal of weight on camera and emerged victorious.  But, one can’t help but wonder how much trainers and chefs were involved.  What really interested me when I was researching this diet is how real, normal people, who didn’t have trainers or chefs at their disposal (and who aren’t being paid) have fared on this diet.  I’ll tell you what I’ve found in the following article.

Regular People Are Featured By Nutrisystem As Much As Celebrities: At any given time, you can log into the company’s web site and you’re very likely to see a featured picture of a regular person who has lost a lot of weight.  In truth, although there are a good number of celeb alumni with this diet, there are thousands more ordinary, every day people who don’t get nearly as much attention by the media, although the company does feature them.  In fact, if you check out the “success stories” section of the website, you’ll see lots of moms, dads, and every day men and women who have had much more dramatic weight loss than the people who are being paid to talk about it.

I actually prefer to focus on these folks because their life is closer to my reality.  Most of us researching this diet have jobs, children, and a million and one things to juggle. We don’t have someone to prepare, research, and plan our meals.  So, it’s important to know and understand that regular people with regular responsibilities are definitely having success with this diet too.

It Doesn’t Take A Personal Chef To Prepare A Nutrisystem Meal: I know I’ve mentioned “stars” and their personal chefs, but honestly, you don’t need one on this diet. These meals come prepackaged.  You really only need to assemble them.  You are asked to provide healthful fresh foods, but this is as easy as adding a salad, piece of fruit, or container of yogurt.

As tempting as it is, don’t use the convenience excuse with nutrisystem. It just isn’t valid.  This is one of the most convenient diets on the market.  There are no calories or carbs to count.  You don’t have to make special or elaborate meals.  All of the work has really been done for you.

You Don’t Need A One On One Trainer For Nutrisytem.  Even If You Are Not A VIP, Support Is Free:  Even if you don’t have the advantage on being on “Dancing With The Stars” like Belinda Belinda Carlisle and Marie Osmond, you are offered free one on one support.  You don’t need a one on one trainer here.

Once you place an order, you’re automatically given access to NutriSystem’s members-only website which offers tons of support.  You get information, tracking tools, a daily newsletter and motivation and one on one counseling.  All of this is totally free and is covered with the cost of your food.  This counseling is very expensive in the outside world, in my experience.  All of this cost you nothing, so you really can’t use the personal trainer excuse.  I was surprised to read that a small percentage of clients don’t use these services.  Some don’t even know that they are there.  By all means take advantage of every single thing that is offered to you.  Every little bit helps.

The bottom line is that, although the Hollywood set draws our attention to this diet, the vast majority of it’s clientele are every day people who don’t have the Hollywood advantage.  But, the truth is, you don’t really need this.  You will get the same food that Marie Osmond eats and you’ll only need to assemble it.  And, if you chose to take advantage of it, you’ll get daily support every step of the way, even if you don’t have a trainer.

Can Anyone Tell Me How Nutrisystem Works?

The commercials on TV make Nutrisystem seem almost effortless.  You get to eat pizza, desserts and burgers and you’ll look lean and slim like Jillian Barberie and Marie Osmond.  Or, you eat five times per day and don’t live in the gym yet you get reliable, steady, and dramatic results. But, any rational person is going to feel a bit of doubt.  Could Jillian fit into that bikini pre Nutrisystem? Is this just slick marketing? I’ll answer some of these questions and doubts in the following article.

Low Glycemic Foods, A Low Amount Of Calories, And A Revved Metabolism Through Regular Meals Combine To Make The Nutrisystem Diet Work: There are basically three components that are the cornerstone of this plan. The first is that the foods are “glycemic friendly.” This is essentially a fancy way of saying that they are low in sugar and carbs and high in protein and fiber.  In short, they are nutritionally dense and filling. And, since the carbs are low and the protein is high, this puts your body in “fat burning” mode much in the same way that Atkins and South Beach does. However the major difference is that this one is more palatable because your do get desserts, cereals, chips, and snacks, etc. - things that are typically forbidden on most low carb plans.  The real trick is that the company has manipulated the foods to make comfort stand bys more glycemic friendly.

Second, all of the foods are low in calories.  Although you’re asked to add in your own fresh, healthy sides, if you follow the guidelines correctly, you’ll still usually only be consuming less than 1300 calories per day.  So even if you are not exercising, this is still going to be many less calories than you are burning for most people.  However, since the calories are very high in fiber and protein, most are pretty filling.  I still find that exercising makes me feel better, tones my body (which makes it look better as it slims down), and really enhances and speeds my results, but how much movement you put in is really up to you.

Finally, you eat five times per day on this diet.  Eating smaller meals helps you feel full, makes you less likely to make bad choices or over eat, and keeps your metabolism revved up and continuously running.  It also keeps insulin and blood sugar levels stable so that you don’t get that jittery desperate feeling that define a lot of diets.  This also ties into the fat burning mechanism of the protein / carbohydrate ratio.

Nutrisystem Support And Education Is Important Too:  I find that one big strength of the Nutrisystem diet is the free support and counseling.  Once you buy your food, you’re given access to free nutritional and weight loss counseling / support.  You can either get this online (in real time) or over the phone – which ever you are most comfortable with.  The counselors are knowledgeable, motivating, and patient and you can ask for the same one over and over. The members area only of the site is also chock full of nutritional guidelines and support, so if you’d rather go it alone, you’ll have more than enough tools and education to do it.

Also, the directions and guidelines are pretty clear.  Each food is given a suggestion for the sides (although you’re not bound to these.)  There are tons of success stories and inspiration on the site and these folks are more than willing to tell you exactly how they did it.

I find that if you’re willing to eat the foods, can follow basic directions, and are willing to educate yourself about making good decisions about the foods that you add in, most people have a decent amount of success on this diet. The company has really done all of the research, shopping, calories and carb counting, and preparation for you.  You just have to be willing to use the tools you’ve been given.

Slim-Fast: Drinking Your Way to Weight Loss

Article by Tony Robinson

You may have seen one of the ever-present cans in the grocery store and been tempted to pick it up. Yet, you’re not sure whether Slim-Fast will be effective in helping you to lose weight. You should know that the Slim-Fast program is considered quite successful in the fight against fat–although not everyone is sold on the plan.

Nearly thirty years ago, S. Daniel Abraham revolutionized weight loss programs with the Slim-Fast drink. According to the company website, Slim-Fast represents a sensible way to slim down. In fact, more than two dozen medical studies indicate that the diet program is a winning formula for losing weight. Slim-Fast is considered to be a nutritionally-balanced plan, offering dieters proteins, carbohydrates, and a healthy

amount of fat. One of the recommendations of the Slim-Fast program is its convenience. You can drink on the run, enabling you to fit nutrition into your busy day. In addition, the program is considered far less expensive than other diet plans, particularly pre-packaged diet plans such as NutriSystem and Jenny Craig.

Slim-Fast also now offers more variety. In addition to all the different flavors of shakes it offers, Slim-Fast also provides dieters with soup, pasta, and nutrition bars. In all, Slim-Fast now features more than a hundred different products. If you follow the Slim-Fast plan, you will need to eat three meals each day, along with three snacks made up of fruits and vegetables.

Two of the meals and one snack must be made up of Slim-Fast products. Because of the frequency with which you’ll be eating, you shouldn’t suffer from hunger pains. One study actually showed that individuals who used Slim-Fast over a period of a decade were 33 pounds lighter than dieters who did not use Slim-Fast products.

Another advantage to the Slim-Fast program is that you don’t have to worry about counting calories, cooking meals, or figuring out portion sizes. Slim-Fast has, in essence, done the work for you. Also, you can now choose between two different Slim-Fast programs: the Optima Diet and the Plan for a Low-Carb Lifestyle.

The company’s website contends that the program is a proven weight loss tool. Dieters have had success in maintaining their weight over one to five years’ duration. A spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association has called the website “user-friendly.” By visiting the site, you can be put in touch with registered dieticians who can answer your concerns. The website also offers a support group, which can be a critical factor in maintaining weight loss over the long term.

Slim-Fast’s goals as far as weight loss is concerned follow government guidelines. The idea is to lose ten percent of one’s weight over six months, meaning that one would shed no more than two pounds a week. Slim-Fast’s plan calls for only 30 minutes of exercise a day, which seems entirely doable. Dieters may also be inspired by the success stories posted on the company’s website.

However, there are disadvantages to the Slim-Fast program. For instance, if you don’t like the taste of the shakes or food, you could find it difficult to continue with the meal plan. Also, some people report feeling hungry, despite eating the recommended portions of food.

Slim-Fast, in essence, does the thinking for you, so, for the most part, you do not get the experience of shopping for wholesome food for yourself. You might also tire of the program quickly, causing you to gain back the weight you initially lost. While Slim-Fast may be effective for the short-term, it is a difficult program to maintain for life.

As a result, Slim-Fast gets mixed reviews–even from members of the medical community. While some dieticians are fans of meal replacement programs, others see them as potentially harmful and nutritionally inadequate. Whether you can effectively lose weight with Slim-Fast depends upon whether you have the discipline and desire to remain with the program for the long-term.

If you start to use Slim-Fast for a while, then stop, you will likely gain back the weight you initially lost. However, for decades now, Slim-Fast has been winning the hearts of dieters and the company shows no signs of slowing down in the near future. Slim-Fast may be one way that you can drink yourself to optimum weight loss.

How Do I Know If Nutrisystem Will Work For Me?

When I get emails from people wondering if Nutrisystem really works, I can hear so many of the doubts that I myself had when I was researching this diet.  Some common concerns expressed are: “will Nutrisystem work for me if I have no willpower?;” “will it work for me if I’ve failed on other diets?” “will it work for me if I cheat from time to time?” and “how quickly will it work?”  I will try to answer these questions as best as I can (based on my own experiences) in the following article.

The Basics Of Nutrisystem: Before I answer the above questions, I want to give just a brief overview of how the system works.  I’m sure you’ve already seen the commercials that show Jillian Barberie in a tiny bikini throwing a foot ball to Dan Marino and explaining how she’s eating pizza, burgers, and pot roast.  Well, this is mostly true. This plan does have really nice variety in terms of comfort foods that would normally be off limits.  There is ravioli, macaroni and cheese, cereal, chocolate cake, three types of pizza etc.  There are well over 120 choices and most taste OK.  However, this is a diet so the portion sizes are somewhat small.

But, the good news to counteract this is that you eat five times per day.  You’ll eat your regular meals, your snacks, and your desserts.  And, with each meal, you can add in healthy sides of your choice (dairy, fruit, etc.)  So, this does give you a bit of control over your day to day meals. And, eating often means that most people are less hungry than they feared.

The cornerstone of this diet (and what makes it work) is the fact that the foods are low in “bad carbs” and sugars and high in protein.  This puts your body in a state called ketosis, which is also sometimes called “fat burning mode.”

Does Nutrisystem Work For Folks Who Don’t Like Diets Or Those With No Will Power?:  OK, so back to the questions about this diet working even if you don’t stick with diets and / or have no will power.  Well, here’s the thing.  I can’t imagine that there is anyone out there who has been on a diet long term that has never, ever cheated on it (at least a little.)  And, it’s very common to be on many diets before you finally find that one that sticks.  So, there is no need to beat yourself up and to doubt yourself before you’ve even started.  It’s never a good idea to go in with an attitude of failure.

But, you have to understand that in order for this diet to work, you must get into ketosis.  And, if you follow mostly along, this isn’t too much of a stretch.  You’re consuming around 1200-1300 calories per day.  You’re eating a high amount of protein and fiber.  And, unless you’re eating candy or something awfully carb laden or sugary for your sides, you should well  be in the range of ketosis within about 2-3 days.

So, let’s stay you start the diet on a Monday, but Wednesday you should enter fat burning mode. Of course, to stay here, you’ll have to maintain the low calorie / low carb eating. If you’re following along as instructed, this isn’t a problem.  Now, it takes about 2-3 days to get yourself out of this state.  In other words, if you cheat, you still have a bit of a window before you fall out of “fat burning mode.”  However, if you do, you’ll need another 2 days or so to get back in.

My point is this. Yes you can cheat, but not long term –  unless you want to take yourself out of the game for a few days.  But, if you do, just jump back on as quickly as you can.  Basically, you want to be in ketosis as much as you can manage.  And, you can check this by using ketone strips so that you don’t have to guess.

Who Doesn’t Nutrisystem Work For:  I spend a lot of time on the site and before I really considered this diet, I followed those who were successful and those who were unsuccessful on it.  In my opinion, this one is not a great fit for those who are passionate about planning, preparing, and tallying their foods.  What I mean by this is that for the most part, the work has been done for you.  You won’t need to carry around a little food journal or make special foods for yourself.  You just need to assemble the foods that the company gives you and pop open some yogurt or grab a piece of fruit (as an example of your sides.) So, if you really enjoy food preparation and planning, you may be frustrated by this experience.

Setting Yourself Up To Succeed: Remember when I said I followed the successful dieters?  I’ll tell you what most had in common. Most all of them used the free counseling and took full advantage of it. This service is, in my opinion, what sets Nutrisystem apart from so many other similar diets. It is so nice to have someone knowledgeable and motivating in your corner.

And, those who were hugely successful didn’t pressure or shame themselves, but they used each success to set new goals so that they were always continuing to move forward.  They would set up little treats and motivation for themselves and if they did hit a week where they only lost say two pounds, that knew that two pounds was still a success and that it was highly likely they’d make up for it the next week when their numbers would be much better.

In short, the people with the most success know that this is just a time and attitude game.  Basically, you follow along as directed, you have a positive attitude, and you trust that because the plan has worked for countless others, there is no reason that it won’t work for you too.

Slim Fast goals as far as weight loss is concerned follow government guidelines.

While Slim Fast may be effective for the short-term, it is a difficult program to maintain for life.

As a result, Slim-Fast gets mixed reviews even from members of the medical community. While some dieticians are fans of meal replacement programs, others see them as potentially harmful and nutritionally inadequate. Whether you can effectively lose weight with Slim-Fast depends upon whether you have the discipline and desire to remain with the program for the long-term. If you start to use Slim Fast for a while, then stop, you will likely gain back the weight you initially lost. However, for decades now, Slim-Fast has been winning the hearts of dieters and the company shows no signs of slowing down in the near future. Slim-Fast may be one way that you can drink yourself to optimum weight loss.

I hope that reading the above information was both enjoyable and educational for you. Your learning process should be ongoing, the more you understand about any subject, the more you will be able to share with others.

Celebrities On The Nutrisystem Diet

There’s no question as to why Nutrisystem is sometimes known as “the celebrity diet.”  Today and in the past, the company has sparred no expense with hiring a long string of “stars” or “celebrities” who were willing to be paid to eat the company’s food to lose large amounts of weight.  But, to be fair, almost all diet companies do the same thing.  Valerie Bertinelli (for her weight loss) and Kirstie Alley (for her recent weight gain) have made Jenny Craig talked about again and Genie Francis certainly helps Medifast’s cause. In the following article, I’ll go over the famous folks who are currently on (and have once been on) the Nutrisystem diet.

Jillian Barberie Vs Marie Osmond (Or Marie’s Osmond VS Valerie Bertinelli):  For a while there, I’d have to say that Jillian Barberie had most earned her endorsement money for proudly pouncing around in a very tiny bikini following her 45 pound weight loss.  Marie Osmond is also on Nutrisystem but she goes about it in a much different way.  Sure, she bore skin when she was on Dancing With The Stars, but she’s made very public her distaste at Valerie Bertinelli’s sporting a blue bikini at age 48. Marie, who is 47, has clearly said that no one wants to see a women of her age wearing a bathing suit, although she claims she would look pretty good in one.  For her part, Marie has lost over 50 pounds and does like quite good, but she’s not willing to take it this far and I have to say I agree with her.  It’s one thing to be proud of your weight loss and another to desperately want attention.  We can all tell that Valerie looks great without her needing to take most of it off.

Other Celebrities Who Don’t Get As Much Attention: It’s interesting to note that Jodi Sweeten (Full House) and Belinda Carlisle (Dancing With The Stars and The Go Gos)are also on Nutrisystem and have lost significant amounts of weight, but they don’t get nearly as much attention (probably because they aren’t as good at generating controversy and attention ((even if it’s negative attention.))

Nutrisystem Alumni:  This diet has a long list of stars willing to lose weight in the spotlight.  These names include Tori Spelling, Dan Marino, Joey Fatone, Don Shula, Jason Taylor, Zora Andrich (Joe Millionaire), and Danielle Fishell (Boy Meets World) who also sported a very small bathing suit after her weight loss.

People often ask me if stars have it easier.  Don’t they have chefs and trainers?  Well, they really don’t need chefs with this plan because most of the food is prepackaged. As far as trainers, that would help, but the company does give you free work out videos with every order.  And, you are offered free nutritional counseling either online or on the phone.

So, there is support there if you want it.  And, if you can mix two things together, work a microwave, and follow directions, then you really can do this on your own.  There isn’t alot of specialized skills or knowledge required, although you do need to make low glycemic choices for your side items.  But, the company does offer suggestions with each meal to make this easier for you.
